What's new in Akshara
Akshara ships small and often — vocabulary fixes, design improvements, whole features. These are the meaningful releases, newest first. Spot something a release broke, or a meaning that reads poorly? Tell us and it will be in a future entry here.
2026-09-26 — Publisher content expansion
- New Articles section: ten original pieces on the game's design, the akshara wheel, vocabulary curation, family screening, and the heritage landmarks.
- New Contact page and a fully rewritten About page.
- Vocabulary browsing reorganized: each language now opens with how its word list was curated; the full word lists remain browsable for players.
- This What's-new page, so the game's ongoing maintenance is public.
2026-09-15 — A new home screen
- The game now opens on a scene-led home: your current chapter's heritage art, one Continue button with your exact position, the daily word, and a swipeable card per language journey with live progress rings.
- The language menu became a bottom sheet showing each journey's saved position in its own script.
- iOS groundwork: offline support inside the app shell, correct safe-area behavior on notched iPhones.
2026-09-11 — Vocabulary quality release
- Thousands of definitions rewritten from grammatical cross-references ('plural of…') into real meanings, explained in the player's own language.
- More than twelve thousand English entries re-glossed to their everyday sense.
- Family screening extended to the meanings themselves; 105 levels withdrawn rather than patched.
- Telugu and Devanagari fonts now ship with the site — no more empty boxes on devices without Indic fonts.
- Vocabulary, Heritage and How-to-play reference pages published.
2026-09-09 — Google Play launch and board fit
- Akshara published on Google Play for Android.
- Boards now measure the real screen and size their cells so no word is ever cut, on any phone, in any language.
- Shuffle and hint became round buttons beside the wheel; chapter stamps are labelled; the daily word shows as 🪔 rather than a level number.
2026-09-04 — Launch week: daily word and content safety
- The daily word 🪔 with streaks: one shared level worldwide each day.
- Full content-safety review across all three languages.
- A letterfall celebration — the level's own letters raining in gold when a chapter completes.
- Site hardening: security headers and a content-security policy.
